A private fishing trip is one of the best ways to spend a day on the water in Abu Dhabi – even if you have never held a fishing rod. Here is what to expect on your first trip and how to make it fun for the whole family.
Which trip is best for beginners?
Choose a 4-hour bottom fishing trip. The boat anchors over a reef, you drop a baited line and wait for the bite. Fish like sultan Ibrahim, faskar and small hammour bite often, so everyone catches something. See all trip types on our fishing trips page.
What happens on the day
- Meet the captain at the boat at the agreed time (we share the meeting point on WhatsApp).
- A short safety briefing and life jackets for children.
- The captain heads to the first fishing spot, usually 20–40 minutes away.
- The crew baits the hooks and shows you how to cast and reel in.
- Fish, swim stops when allowed, snacks – then back to the marina.
Tips for fishing with kids
- Pick the morning: calmer sea and cooler air.
- Bring snacks, water and a change of clothes.
- Choose a stable boat – a catamaran is very steady for families.
- Let them reel in – the crew will help with the hook.
Best boats for families
For small families the Yellow Fin (up to 8 guests) is simple and affordable. For bigger groups, the catamaran and the Tecno yacht take up to 18 guests with shade and space to relax.
What to bring
- Passport or Emirates ID for everyone
- Sunscreen, hats and sunglasses
- Comfortable shoes with grip
- A cool box for your catch
